Overview

FPNO ICT Directorate is the arm of the polytechnic responsible for conceiving, designing and implementing ICT strategies for the polytechnic via the deployment of human capacities and provision of critical infrastructure and network services.

The ICT Directorate helps staff and students use information and communication technologies to enhance their work.

Vision

The Vision of the ICT Directorate is to become a world-class center of excellence where the potential of ICT is harnessed to transform the institution into an automated work environment that supports research and development to provide a customer-centered ICT and business development services

Mission

The Mission of ICT Directorate is to provide, coordinate, and facilitate the use of information technology resources to the satisfaction of the institution, its stakeholders, improvement and maintenance of the local area network (LAN) and ICT infrastructures. We achieve this by:

  • Attending to all administrative issues.
  • Providing leadership in planning and developing the Polytechnic information systems.
  • Using Information Technology in connecting students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders with operational and strategic information resources.
  • Providing Polytechnic-wide support for all computing resources
  • Automating systems monitoring tasks using standard monitoring tools.
  • Making provisions for Server hardware, including configuration and deployment.
  • Data backup management, which includes scheduling and reporting for both internal Polytechnic systems and data center system
  • Building and deploying virtualization servers for Polytechnic and data center environments
  • Troubleshooting and support for Polytechnic cyber operations such as websites, SFTP sites, e-voting sites, SMTP services and Polytechnic intranet.
  • Providing technical support for web development projects.
  • Establish systems standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Creating and maintaining systems configuration and work flow diagrams.
  • Designing and implementing security measures against cyber-attack and malware.
  • Responding to requests for help and inquiries from website visitors and website designers

The ICT DIRECTORATE is an integral part of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri. We identify the role ICT is playing in enhancing administration. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is widely deployed in Federal Polytechnic, Nekede Owerri; mainly for the purpose of provision and accessing information and automation of administrative processes. We explore ICT trends, which are having (or likely to have) impact on Polytechnic business processes including teaching, research, community engagement and administration.

The Polytechnic has Wi-Fi in most public areas, and Network jacks are provided in offices and labs as part of our building infrastructures.

The Polytechnic’s intranet provides access to the internet and other online resources, including Library e-resources/e-journals and Student Information Management System.
